Year 4 Miss Carr

 Welcome to Year 4!

I hope you all had a lovely Summer break and are ready for a great year!

We have started the year by looking into our learning environment, classroom rules and establishing new friendships.  We have also started our spelling programme, guided reading and handwriting scheme - so we have been very busy!

Next week (Monday 18th September) we have our Curriculum launch morning - we hope to see you there to celebrate our new topic - Suffolk Secrets.

This term in Maths we will be focusing mainly on Number and place value, we have already started to look at ordering and comparing numbers and will then move onto recognising numbers and knowing their value.  It is really important that the children are secure in this before we move onto adding and subtracting.

In English we are really trying to encourage the love of reading, our class book is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and we make sure we have a story time at the end of every day - the children are really enjoying this.

Our main topic is Suffolk secrets where we will be cooking some Suffolk foods and learning about the location of Suffolk in Geography.

Science - Electricity

Computing - We are Meterologists

Music - Mamma Mia

MFL: Describing people and nationatlities

R.E - Hinduism/inspirational people

P.E - Swimming and Invasion Games

Homework in year 4:

Reading - Children should read for 5-10 minutes every night and complete at least one entry in their reading journal answering the question that has been set.

Red homework books - Homework will be set in this book every week with tasks ranging from handwriting practice, topic activities or research tasks.

Maths - Children each have a times table tracker which is kept in school but every child knows which times table/divisions they should be practising at home.

Thursday 21st September - Class assembly, then parents are invited back to class to look at books.
