Year 4 Miss Carr

Welcome to the last term in year 4! We have already started the new term with a trip to the Suffolk Country Fair at the Trinity showground, the children behaved extremely well and were an asset to the school. The children got the opportunity to stroke different breeds of dog, look at piglets, lambs and hold rabbits and guinea pigs. We also watched sheep sheering and had the opportunity to identify minibeasts... look out for some photographs below!

Now on for the rest of the term:

In English this term we are going to be learning about stories from the past starting with Romulus and Remus which links into our Romans topic.  We will be acting this story out and then rewriting the story in our own words.

We will also continue to develop our handwriting by using our new scheme 'Penpals' which will enable the children to begin to use a pen once their handwriting is joined and neat.

Guided reading will continue to take place every day in the first part of the morning.  In this session children will have the opportunity to pre read a book with Mrs Fryer, the next day they will discuss the book with Miss Carr and then the following 3 days will be a mixture of comprehension questions about the book and reading for pleasure.

In Maths we are going to begin the term by focusing on Shape, we will be learning about regular and irregular shapes, quadrilaterals and the different types of triangles.

We will also continue to improve our multiplication and division knowledge in our weekly tests on Fridays.  The children have shown great improvements in their knowledge of division and multiplication facts, please continue to practice these at home.

Our main topic for the term is The Romans, we will be learning about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.  In Music we will be learning the song Think like a Roman which will focus on pitch and rhythm.  We will also be looking at the Roman army and the shields they have and creating our own 'tortoise formation.'  In DT we will be making a Drawstring Purse and in Art we will be creating our own mosaics.  When we have finished learning about this topic we will celebrate by having a ROMAN BANQUET!! The children are already very excited about this!
